"Mr. McGoo"

All signs of the colicky baby that we had are now gone. In his place we have a very happy, healthy little man who is more and more fun by the day. If he begins to fuss (now typically only if he is hungry, tired, or wanting to be held), a silly face or calling out his name (more likely a nickname) stops the fussing and gets a big, gummy smile in return.

He definitely loves to be held, but he is so content in his baby bijorn that he has become a coconspirator in my shopping trips. He travels with me easily, just taking in his surroundings, dozing off when he feels a nap coming on. He is a big talker, but rarely talks when we are out shopping (to busy taking it all in). Just yesterday we ran several errands together. We were gone for several hours, so at one point I had to nurse him in a dressing room. The minute I pulled him out of his bjorn he started yammering away, squealing and talking as if he had been saving up all of his thoughts and ideas from the entire trip. He was so interested in talking that he would even break from nursing to tell me a thing or two…this never happens. He generally chooses to eat over all else!!

Jason’s company always has a post holiday party, which was just this past Friday. My parents had Adam for the evening. He talked their ears off. Grammy and Poppy have now nicknamed him “Mr. McGoo” because all of his “ahh-gooos.” He particularly loves it when he has a little saliva in his throat, so the “goo” becomes a throaty, vibrating sound. He will repeat this same noise over and over at different volumes, his sweet little mouth making a perfect O shape, until the sound is just the boring old “goo” he always makes.

No big changes this week. Still loving bath time and naked time. Staring at lights is still a favorite hobby. Sucking on his hands is a big to-do, often trying to fit both in his mouth at once. He’s still in his bassinet by the bed, although I fear he will be outgrowing it soon. “Mr. McGoo” and “Milkman” are a couple of new nicknames added to the mix, although biggie, biggsie, and bigs are still the most common. We had pictures taken this week by a professional photographer and she was laughing because we never once called him Adam…only a handful of endearing nicknames. I’ve posted some of the professional pictures that were taken this week in today’s post. He is 11 weeks old in these shots (somewhere between 14-15lbs).

Taylor's First Birthday

We had a fun week here. Adam is getting bigger by the second. He’s 10 weeks and we are officially in 3-6 month clothing. He is so long, and his feet are so big we had to put away all of his 0-3 month clothes. He is a very vocal little guy. He’s cooing away, having full conversations with anyone or anything that will stick around long enough to listen…mom, dad, mirrors, and the little monkey on his bouncer seat are his favorite things to talk to. We are definitely preferred. He loves listening to us and watching our mouths move, often attempting to imitate our sounds and facial expressions. No doubt now that he is officially rolling; last week was not just a fluke. He rolls off of his stomach to his back, always to his left. He is also reaching for toys now, which makes his lay-under matt a very entertaining toy. He sat in his bumbo for the first time this week (this is a small round chair that allows for little guys to sit up on their own). He seemed to like it, although he quickly ended up a little crooked as you can see by the picture. Both the dog and cat became fascinated with him once he was sitting up…it was as if they realized he’s a little person!

With the discovery of his hands came the discovery of his face. He is often seen rubbing his entire face with both hands, exploring his little eyes and nose. After naps he stretches really big, with both arms straight out above his head, and then he reaches down and rubs his eyes. He has also discovered his feet this week. When he has bare feet he actually rubs his little feet together, over and over and over. He’ll rub them together or he’ll even rub them onto the opposite leg. At times the friction between his two feet causes him to look down at them and squeal with delight.

Taylor, our niece, turned one this week. Time flies. I feel like she was just born, and now she’s one! We went over to Lisa and Josh’s for cake on her birthday. Taylor did dig into the icing, smearing it all over her hands, but surprisingly, she didn’t really eat any of the cake. When Lisa would put a piece up to her mouth she would simply shake her head “no.” (She may not say many words, but she communicates what she wants very effectively!) She did love when we all sang happy birthday…looking around at all of us with excitement as if surprised we all knew the words to the same song!

Her actual birthday party was on Saturday at Gymboree, a play/activity center for kids. It was so much fun for the kids and for the adults! Taylor was so excited, clearly enjoying the playtime with all of the other kids and her family. (Just take a look at the pics below and you’ll see what I mean.) We had so much fun watching all of the kiddos play. I think Adam even enjoyed it…he stayed awake for the party, although he was clearly tired. The center is filled with bright colors and mirrors, which caught his attention. He also seemed to be watching the kids play (which is another new development this week). He definitely liked bubble time, when hundreds of bubbles were floating around the room. He was passed around from person to person throughout the party…everyone seemed to need a little baby fix. He just loves to be snuggled in and held. I would say he is pretty content in general these days as long as he is in someone’s arms…or in the baby bjorn (a front carrier that is seeing lots of use. You can only hold a 14 lb baby for so long before your arms start to get tired!).

Two Month Check Up

Things have been so busy around here that I recently exclaimed to Jason that I couldn’t believe I hadn’t recorded a single thing in Adam’s baby book. I said that I was worried I would start forgetting the details of the past weeks. That’s when J pointed out the beauty of a blog…here the details of our weeks are recorded. I’ve decided that I’m going to start looking at this as more of a journal…committing to weekly entries. Here I will take the time to record thoughts, feelings, and so many of the details of Adam’s growth and experiences.
Adam’s favorite tricks this week include blowing spit bubbles, sucking on his fists (he has officially found his hands), and rolling from his tummy to his back to get out of tummy time (I in no way think that this rolling is purposeful, or that he is setting some sort of record…I think that his little round belly allows for him to roll over with even the slightest momentum!!). The cooing and smiles continue with full conversations in his little baby language. J and I continue to work for the ever elusive laugh…he showed it off in full force last weekend, and now he’s keeping it from us despite all of our efforts.
We had Adam’s two month check up this week. As predicted, he’s a big boy. He weighed in at 13 lbs, 14 oz (95th percentile) and is 25 inches long (90th percentile). So, in the last month he has grown 2 inches and gained 3 pounds. Told you he likes to eat! He’s a healthy baby boy, perfect in every way. (Jason and I already knew that he was perfect, but it doesn’t hurt to hear it!) I can’t believe he’s already two months old. Time just goes so fast. He’s not the fragile little guy we brought home in November. He has the neck strength to look around the room, often either looking for the “best” lights (yes, the Christmas lights are still up, they’re just on the chairs), or following our voices if J or I are not in his line of vision. He also loves to look at Cooper…often talking and squealing to him in delight. I think he likes the contrast and shape of his spots. (He’s not so sure about those sloppy dog kisses though!) I am slowly putting away his 0-3 month outfits, especially those with feet. He’s getting so big so fast! His nicknames are “Biggsie,” “Bigs” and “Biggest,” clearly stemming from his size (it started out as “the biggest boy” and evolved from there). I wonder if the poor boy is going to know his actual name sometimes. He is still eating pretty much every two hours, even all through the night. No sleep for the hungry (or his momma). The pediatrician says we could easily continue this frequent eating pattern through age six months…should be interesting to go back to work on the 4 to 5 one to one and a half hour ‘naps’ I get at night. Although I wouldn’t mind a few consecutive hours of sleep, a part of me does love those night time feedings. He stops his fussing the minute he sees the boob, nearly falling to sleep as soon as he latches on. I love watching him nurse, his eyes closed. He grunts and squeaks with such contentment, resting his little hand on my chest. I knew it would be unbelievable to be a mom, and yet I had no idea. This journey is so amazing already, and it has only just begun.

Laugh Out Loud

OH MY GOSH…he’s laughing!!!!! He has the most unbelievable little giggle that has J and I laughing our butts off. What fun. Can’t wait for all that is to come.

Brown Eyed Boy

We had a very happy first Christmas. Adam was spoiled rotten, particularly by his grandparents (no surprise there). Jason had eleven days off, which was wonderful. It just went so fast with all of the holiday gatherings and celebrations. It did give us several opportunities to put Adam in his little santa hat, which was fun. It was actually Taylor’s first Christmas too, so Christmas at the Trimpe house was extra special with the two of them.

Adam is continuing to get bigger and more fun by the day. It’s hard to believe he’s nearly two months already. The smiles and coos continue. He loves talking to the Christmas tree…so much so that we’ve actually left it up through this weekend. We are planning on taking it down today or tomorrow, but I’m going to relocate the lights to another stationary object, like a chair or the kegerator. They provide too much entertainment to put them away already.

Mornings are the most fun around here, with a very happy, well rested baby. He can still be a bit fussy in the evenings, so we having a standing date with the bath tub each evening. He absolutely loves bath time. He lays in there cooing away, kicking his little legs as fast as they’ll go. Actually, he likes having his diaper changed too…anything naked seems like a fantastic activity to Adam.

Adam has just recently discovered his tongue, so much of his waking hours are now spent with his tongue out, or sucking on anything that gets close to his mouth. His fists, blankets, our shoulders, and even his little tummy time mat are all regularly slobbered on. His tummy time is actually quite funny to watch. He spends a great deal of that time either resting his head on his arms or going face down to lick his little mat. We’re working on our neck strength, but it’s a slow process.

Not that there was ever any doubt, but his eyes are already brown. No surprise there! I’ll try to check back in next week after his two month appointment.
